Late Run Propels Men’s Basketball Past Penn State Behrend Saturday Afternoon

GREENSBURG, PA- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg men's basketball team was faced with a 6-point deficit with 1:35 remaining and stormed back to score eight unanswered points to defeat Penn State Behrend, 71-69, in an AMCC matchup Saturday (Nov. 30) afternoon. Cam Seigfreid made Chambers Hall erupt when he sank the eventual game winning three-pointer with 19 seconds remaining.

The Bobcats, now at 4-1, 2-0 in the AMCC, are off to their best start since 2015, when they went 5-1. The Lions move to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in conference.

Cody Spaid posted a team high 17 points, while going 8 of 10 from the field, and grabbing five rebounds. Seigfreid scored 14, six of which came in the 8-0 run that ended the game. Jojo France also had 14 and Matt Johnson was the fourth Bobcat in double figures with 12. Torian Jenkins tied Spaid with five rebounds.

Penn State Behrend led the whole first half, but UPG kept it within striking distance at all times. The Lion advantage got up to 12 with six and a half minutes left in the first period, but Spaid and Johnson connected on back to back buckets to get it back to single digits. Pitt-Greensburg chipped away and got it to a four point game, 31-27, at the half. Behrend was aided by forcing turnovers in the first half, holding a 14-3 advantage in points off turnovers.

UPG took their first lead of the game at the 15:07 mark in the second half when Torian Jenkins made a jumper in the paint. The teams then traded baskets for a couple minutes, before Bobcats got the lead back at 11:56 and held on to it for about four minutes. During that span, the lead for Pitt-Greensburg got up to four points at two different sports.

The Lions later in the second half got their lead up to nine with just over four minutes left in the game. UPG stayed within striking distance and struck with the 8-0 run during the final 1:35 to take the lead into the box score.

Pitt-Greensburg dominated in close to the basket, holding a 50-34 advantage inside the paint. . The win for UPG was their first over Behrend dating back to February 20, 2016 and first victory over them in Chambers Hall since January 2015.

UPG hits the road to Altoona, Pa for their first conference away game this Wednesday (Dec. 4) at 6 pm. Penn State Altoona will enter the game with a 2-2, 0-1 AMCC record.
