Men’s Basketball Rolls Past Hilbert, Moves to 5-0 in the AMCC

HAMBURG, NY- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg men's basketball team went on the road Saturday (Dec. 14) and rolled to a twenty point, 82-62, victory over Hilbert College in the AMCC Game of the Week. Pitt-Greensburg remains undefeated in the AMCC at 5-0 and improves to 7-1 overall, while Hilbert gets their first conference loss, to go to 4-1, and moves to 8-2 overall.

Hilbert scored the first basket of the day, but thenCam Seigfreid connected on a three pointer at 19:10 to give UPG the lead, which they would never relinquish.

Seigfreid collected his first double-double of the season and second of his career in the win. He led all players with 21 points and 11 rebounds, and JoJo France was in double digits as well with 15 points. The offense was spread out for the Bobcats, as nine different players recorded a basket and eight tallied multiple field goals.

Pitt-Greensburg's AMCC leading defense was on full display. The Hawks came into the contest atop the AMCC statistical leaderboards with an average of 82 points and nearly 42 rebounds per game. The Bobcats held Hilbert to just 35.4% shooting and 14.7% from three, resulting in a showing that was twenty points below their average. On the glass, UPG posted a 55-36 advantage. Cody Spaid joined Seigreid in double figure rebounds with 10 of his own.

At 9:47 in the first half, Nate Burt scored to cap off a 7-0 UPG run and put the Bobcats ahead by double digits (25-15) for the first time. The first half advantage got the biggest for the Bobcats at 19 points (43-24), which came at the 1:10 mark on a Seigfeid three ball. After twenty minutes of play, Pitt-Greensburg led 43-28.

Pitt-Greensburg scored six straight points over nearly three minutes to get the lead above twenty for the first time. Isaiah Zeise laid in the Bobcats' 55th point of the night to go up 22, and finish the scoring streak with 15:17 left to play.

The edge for UPG stayed at 19 points or higher the rest of the game. It got as big as 27, which happened twice. At 7:10 Tommy Arbuckle hit a three pointer to make it 75-48, and Matt Johnson scored in the paint at 5:44 to move the score to 77-50.

The Bobcats had 15 assists on their 28 made field goals, and were led by Spaid, who dished out a season-high five helpers to lead the team.

Pitt-Greensburg stays on the road with a trip to LaRoche University, who awaits them next Saturday (Dec. 21). LaRoche and UPG are the lone undefeated teams left in conference play. Tip off between the conference leaders is set for 2 pm. The RedHawks are 3-0 and face Mount Aloysius on Wednesday, prior to their matchup with the Bobcats.
