Hickey's Buzzer Beater Lifts Franciscan To Overtime Victory Over Men's Basketball

GREENSBURG- Sean Hickey's three point shot as the buzzer sounded propelled Franciscan to a 75-74 overtime victory over the Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team Wednesday evening inside the Chambers Hall.

Wednesday's contest was the regular-season home finale for Pitt-Greensburg and it will conclude the 2018-19 regular-season Saturday afternoon with a matchup at Hilbert. Saturday's contest is slated for a 3 pm tip-off.

John Noce missed the front end of a 1-1 with nine seconds left in OT, but Josh York managed to corral the offensive rebound. York threw a pass to Noce at the top of the key, who drove the lane and kicked the ball out to Hickey for the buzzer beating three-point make.

Pitt-Greensburg led 74-70 on a jumper by Cam Seigfreid with 36 seconds left in overtime. Matt Johnson hauled down a Baron miss on the next possession and Seigfreid headed to the line after an intentional foul by Franciscan. The sophomore guard missed the front end of the 1-and 1, which gave the Barons hope. York grabbed the board for the Barons and quickly got the ball down the court. Hickey missed a three point attempt, by Matt Trent grabbed the miss and York hit a layup to cut the deficit to two with 12 seconds left.

JoJo France drew a foul and headed to the line with 10 seconds left. The freshman guard missed the free-throw attempt and went to grab the miss, but was called for a foul and sent the Barons to the line. Noce missed the free-throw, but Franciscan grabbed the miss and kicked it out to Hickey who drilled a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Franciscan had a chance to end the game in regulation as they held the possession with just six seconds left in the second half. Following a timeout to draw up a last chance play, Noce drove the lane, but Kyle Bondi came up with a huge block to send the game into the extra period.

Bondi led the Bobcats with 15 points on 6-of-13 from the floor and the senior guard also dished out a team-high four assists. Cody Spaid put together a solid game for
Pitt-Greensburg, recording his third double-double of the season with 13 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. France also reached double-figures for the 13th time this season, posting 11 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Matt Johnson gave the Bobcats great production off the bench as the sophomore guard chipped in 12 points on 2-of-5 from three-point distance and also had two steals.

Pitt-Greensburg shot just under 50% for the game, making 29-of-62 (46.8%) and hit nine three-pointers, but despite shooting just 38.4% for the game, which included being limited to 11-of-32 in the second half, the Barons had a decided advantage on the offensive glass, hauling down 15 boards, which they converted into 20 second chance points, compared to just seven for the Bobcats
