Pitt-Greensburg Baseball Swept By Bethany In Season-Opener

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team was defeated in a doubleheader against Bethany College, in its 2019 season-opener Saturday afternoon at Bethany Park. Bethany took the opening game 5-1, and completed the sweep with a 7-4 victory in game two. 

Game Overview
Pitt-Greensburg jumped out to the lead with a run on two hits in the fourth inning. Tyler Holland and Chris Common each collected one-out singles and Evan Johnston saw four-straight balls to load the bases. Mikey Sullivan came through with an RBI groundout to plate the first run of the afternoon. The lead would not last long as Bethany answered with four runs on three hits and took advantage on two errors in the bottom of the inning. The Bison would go on to add a run in the fifth and took the opening game of the day, 5-1.

Game Two
Pitt-Greensburg once again got on the board first to take the lead. Common led off the second inning with a double and Matt Mish scored Common with a bullet off the fence. Griffin Clark then followed Mish with an RBI double of his own for the final run of the inning. The Bobcats struck again with a run in the third inning as Holland scored Brody Bonadio to put the Bobcats up 3-0. Bonadio led off the inning with a double to left center. Bethany got a run back in the fourth and exploded for a six-run sixth inning to take a 7-3 lead into the seventh inning. Despite being down four runs heading into their final at-bats, the Bobcats would not quit and would get a run back. Jordan Cavanaugh drew a leadoff walk and Ben Green smoked a double to give Pitt-Greensburg runners on second and third with no outs. Bonadio then came through with an RBI groundout, but that would be the final run of the afternoon for Pitt-Greensburg, as Bethany would complete the sweep with a 7-4 win in game two.
