@Pittgbgbaseball Drops Two Hard Fought Contests To Penn State Altoona

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team (5-12, 2-2 AMCC) was swept by Penn State Altoona in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Bobcat Park.

Pitt-Greensburg dropped the opening contest of the afternoon, 6-3 and fell 5-3 in the nightcap.

Game 1- Penn State Altoona 6, Pitt-Greensburg 3
The Bobcats got a solid start from Dakota McWilliams, who tossed six strong innings, allowing just two earned runs, but four errors would doom Pitt-Greensburg.

Pitt-Greensburg jumped out to the lead in its first at-bats. Ben Green belted a one-out single up the middle and would later come around to score on a throwing error, after a hard hit ground ball by Tyler Holland.

Altoona would plate two runs in the top of the second to grab a 2-1 lead after two innings.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Bobcats were poised for a big inning as the first three batters reached to load the bases, which brought Evan Johnston to the plate. The sophomore outfielder tied the game with a sac fly, but the inning would come to an abrupt end as Dan Kiester hit into a double play.

Like they did in the second, the Lions came right back in the fifth and add two runs to once again jump into the lead.

In the top of the seventh, Altoona added two additional runs for a 6-2 lead, but despite an RBI double from Brody Bonadio in the bottom of the frame, Pitt-Greensburg would come up short, 6-3.

Game 2- Penn State Altoona 5, Pitt-Greensburg 3

Bonadio's base hit scored Derek Shaw to tie the game at two in the bottom of the sixth, but a three-run seventh from Altoona would propel the visitors to the 5-3 victory.

The Lions quickly took the lead in the top of the first, but Jordan Cavanaugh's single tied the game at one. Altoona would setup for a big inning, as they loaded the bases with no outs, but starter Tony Ianuzzo got three of the next four batters to record outs.

Altoona answered the run in the third with a run of their own in the fourth to once again take a one-run lead (4-3).

Pitt-Greensburg once again tied the contest at two on a base hit from Bonadio.

Like they had done all game, the Lions had the answer in the seventh, plating three runs to jump out to a 5-2 advantage with just two innings left.

Holland smoked a leadoff double in the ninth and came around to score on a RBI single from Chris Common, but the Bobcat comeback fell short.

Pitt-Greensburg starter Tony Ianuzzo went six innings, allowing just three hits and struck out a career-best eight batters in the no-decision.
