Common Breaks Career Hits Record In Sweep Of D'Youville

GREENSBURG- In his last at-bat of the afternoon, senior Chris Common broke the Pitt-Greensburg baseball school record for career hits as the Bobcats picked up two wins over D'Youville, Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Park. 

Prior to the start of Saturday's games, seniors Chris Common, Tyler Holland, and Dakota McWilliams were honored. 

Common entered the twin-bill just three hits from breaking the school-record. The senior left fielder collected his first hit of the afternoon in the fourth inning of game one, as he smacked a single to right field. His second hit of the day came in the fifth inning of game two and the power hitting left handed batter drilled a single to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning to become to school's all-time leader in hits. 

Offensively, the Bobcats erupted for 31 runs on 34 hits and posted a collective .420 batting average. 

Dylan DeRoss and Holland each posted six hits over the two games, Evan Johnston totaled four bases knocks, including his second home run of the season, while Daniel Kiester, Common, Ben Green, and Brody Bonadio each collected three base-hits. 

A moment that made everyone in attendance smile happened in the bottom of the seventh inning of game two. Dakota McWilliams entered the batters box for his first career at-bat and smoked a single through the right side of the infield, which plated two runs.  McWilliams tossed eight great inning for the Bobcats, allowing just two runs on seven hits and struck out six in the victory. 

In the first game of the afternoon, Andy Prentice earned his third win of the season, going six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and struck out five. 

D'Youville 3, Pitt-Greensburg 12

In the opening game of the afternoon, the Bobcats totaled 12 runs on 14 hits and took advantage on five Spartan errors to cruise to the victory.  Holland, Johnston, and Derek Shaw each drove in two runs in the game, followed by Green, Kiester, and DeRoss, who also plated a run. 

The Bobcats plated two runs in both the second and third inning en route to the 12-3 victory. 

D'Youville 3, Pitt-Greensburg 19
The Bobcat set season-highs in both runs and hits to complete the sweep of the doubleheader over the Spartans. In the victory, Green led the way driving in four runs and in total nine players drove in an RBI in the victory. 

Johnston got the Bobcats on the board with a two-run smash in the second inning. Following a four-run second inning, D'Youville responded with three tallies in the third, but the Bobcat came right back with four in the fourth and six in the fifth as they would roll to the 19-3 win.
