Baseball Drops Two At Alfred State; Earns Sixth Seed In AMCC Tournament

BOLIVAR, N.Y.- The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Alfred State in its regular-season AMCC finale, Monday morning at Bolivar-Richburg Central High School.

With the sweep, Pitt-Greensburg earns the #6 seed in the AMCC Tournament and will face the #3 seed Penn State Altoona, Saturday afternoon. The two teams will play a best of three series with two games taking place Saturday starting at 1 pm and an if-necessary contest Sunday afternoon at 11 am.

The winner of Saturday's first round series advances to next week's AMCC Championship Round against #2 seed Penn State Behrend at La Roche College, who earned the right to host the Championship Round by claiming the AMCC Regular-Season Title.

Offensively, Brody Bonadio posted four hits on the day to lead the charge at the plate for Pitt-Greensburg, followed by three base-knocks from Ben Green, two singles by Evan Johnston, and a hit each from Mikey Sullivan, Jordan Cavanaugh, Dylan DeRoss, Chris Common, and Tyler Holland

Pitt-Greensburg 3, Alfred State 5

Pitt-Greensburg held a 3-2 advantage entering the bottom of the sixth inning. Colin Johnson led off the inning with a single to left field and advanced into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Alfred State had runners on first and third with just one out following a single to center field. With two runners on-base, Jack Henby put down a bunt, which was fielded by Matt Mish, but his throw got past Holland and Henby would come all the way around to score.

The Bobcats would go down 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh and Alfred State would hold on for the 5-3 comeback win.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in their first at-bats of the afternoon, but in the third inning, the Bobcat offense would start clicking. DeRoss led off with a double down the right field line and would come around to score on a triple from Bonadio. Bonadio would later give the Bobcats the lead on a single from Common.

Alfred added a run in the fourth, but Common would put the Bobcats ahead 3-2 with a sacrifice fly in the fifth. Andrew Bantobuono earned the win for the Pioneers, tossing a complete-game, where he allowed seven hits and struck out 12.

Pitt-Greensburg 3, Alfred State 5

The Bobcats wasted no time getting on the board in game two as Bonadio score on an RBI-grounder from Holland. The lead would not last long as the Pioneers got the run back in the bottom of the frame.

Alfred State added a run in the fourth and three tallies in the sixth as the home side led 5-1 with three innings left.

Despite two runs in the ninth inning, Pitt-Greensburg's comeback attempt would fall short, 5-3.
