Volleyball Sweeps Waynesburg To Begin 2019 Campaign

LATROBE- Pitt-Greensburg reeled off a 3-0 straight-set victory (25-18, 25-18, 25-23) over Waynesburg in its season-opener Friday afternoon at the Bearcat Invitational hosted by St. Vincent.

Pitt-Greensburg competed in four matches over the two days, facing Allegheny (25-23, 17-25, 15-25, 20-25) in its second match on Friday and followed with St. Vincent (18-25, 20-25, 18-25)  and Oberlin (13-25, 15-25, 15-25) Saturday.

In total, Pitt-Greensburg tallied 121 kills and posted a .126 hitting percentage. Freshmen Savanna Stephens and Emma Halutick led the way with 28 and 27 kills respectively, while Alexis Ray also had 27 kills as well. Emma Dongilli opened her senior season with 97 assists, while fellow senior Kassi Niver led the team with 59 digs.

In Friday's 3-0 victory over Waynesburg, the Bobcats tallied 28 kills and were effective from behind the service line tossing up five aces. Defensively, the blue and gold added five blocks and had 23 assists and 34 digs.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the court Tuesday evening when it travels to face Westminster (7 pm) before traveling to DC next weekend to compete in the Catholic University of America Tournament.
