Volleyball Rolls Past Chatham In Home Opener Wednesday Night

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg volleyball team put on an impressive display in its home opener Tuesday night, rolling to a 3-0 victory over Chatham in a non-conference match inside Chambers Hall.

Pitt-Greensburg won all three sets by scores of 25-21, 29-27, 25-14. The Bobcats totaled 31 kills on 94 swings for a .085 hitting percentage and leading the way offensively was Mackenzie Schropp with eight kills, followed by seven from Emma Halutick, and five by Alexis Ray.
Emma Dongilli added 26 assists in the win and also contributed from behind the service line recording four aces. Defensively, Kassi Niver led the team with 19 digs, while Zoe Sheffler impressed in her collegiate home debut posting a team-best three blocks.

After getting off to a slow start in the opening set of the evening, Pitt-Greensburg carried much of the action over the final two sets, totaling 12 kills in each set. In the third and final set of the game, the Bobcats were on fire, posting a .296 hitting percentage, while limiting Chatham to just -.032.

The Cougars got out of the gates quickly jumping out to a quick 6-1 advantage in the opening stanza, but following a service error from Josephine Strobel that tied the score at 10, Pitt-Greensburg reeled off eight-straight points to grab hold of the set and would go on to score a 1-0 advantage with a 25-21 win.

Set two featured runs from both sides, but following a kill from Elivia Wagner, Chatham had set point at 24-21. The Bobcats held off three-straight set points and eventually tied the score at 24. Following a kill by Brooke Petrillo that once again deadlocked the set at 27, Ray smacked back-to-back kills and put the Bobcats up 2-0.

The Bobcats never trailed in game three and would record its second win of the season, posting a 25-15 win in set three, which gave Pitt-Greensburg the 3-0 victory.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Saturday, when it hosts Shenandoah and Mt. St. Joseph's for a tri-match. The Bobcats face Shenandoah at 12 pm and Mt. St. Joe's at 4 pm. Sandwiched between the two games played by the Bobcats will be a battle between Shenandoah and Mt. St. Joe's at 2 pm.
