Men’s Basketball Fights Off Pitt-Bradford To Move To 6-1 In AMCC Play

GREENSBURG, PA- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg men's basketball team fought off Pitt-Bradford, 76-62, to improve to 9-2 on the season and 6-1 in the AMCC Saturday (Jan. 4) afternoon. The Pitt-Bradford squad that would not go away until the Bobcats ended the game on a 21-7 run. The matchup saw 9 ties and 12 lead changes over the 40 minutes inside Chambers Hall. The Panthers are left in search of their first conference win and drop to 1-10, 0-6.

Torian Jenkins went 6 for 10 from the field, collecting 12 points, and pulled down a career best 18 rebounds to record a double-double in the game. Matt Johnson was the Bobcats leading scorer with 16 points, while going 11-13 from the charity stripe. Cody Spaid and JoJo France each tallied 11 points to round out the double figure scorers for Pitt-Greensburg.

The first half was a back and forth battle. The lead changed hands ten times and the score was tied six times over the first twenty minutes.
The largest advantage of the half was five points by Pitt-Greensburg at the 11:24 mark when Cody Spaid made a layup to make the score 14-9. Pitt-Bradford owned a four-point lead, their largest of the half, about four minutes later.

The game was deadlocked at 31 with 1:40 to go until halftime. The Bobcats ended the half on a 6-2 run to gain momentum and take a 37-33 lead into the locker room. Jenkins capped off the run with a lay in with eight ticks left on the clock.

The second half saw a back and forth battle once again. The teams traded baskets for the first nine-plus minutes, until Pitt-Bradford tied the game at 47 with 10:31 left to play. Pitt-Greensburg answered with a 6-1 run to go up 53-48 with 8:40 on the clock. Pitt-Bradford punched right back with a 5-0 run in 31 seconds to tie things up.

The game got tied for the ninth and final time of the afternoon at 55 with 6:38 to play. The Bobcats had enough of the back and forth play and took control of the contest for the final six minutes. UPG ended the game on a 21-7 run to claim the 14-point victory. France led the spurt with five points during the spurt and the Bobcat defense held the Panthers to just 1-of-13 shooting to close the game.

Pitt-Greensburg held a 10-rebound advantage on the boards (48-38) and dished out 19 assists as a team compared to Pitt-Bradford's nine. Seigfreid led the home squad with 5 assists.

The Bobcats wrap up non-conference play with their next matchup. Pitt-Greensburg welcomes Penn College (2-7), of the NEAC, to Chambers Hall for a 5 pm tip off on Tuesday (Jan. 7).
