Men’s Basketball Sets School Record for Three Pointers In Victory Over Penn College

GREENSBURG, PA- The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg men's basketball team poured in a school-record 20 three-pointers in their 103-80 victory over Penn College in its non-conference finale Tuesday (Jan. 7) evening inside Chambers Hall. The Bobcats eclipsed the century mark for the first-time since February 3, 2016.

Pitt-Greensburg improves their record to 10-2, while Penn College drops to 2-8 on the season.

JoJo France (6) and Matt Johnson (4) combined for half of the Bobcats record setting 20 three pointers in the contest. France and Johnson each tallied 18 points on the evening. Also joining France and Johnson in double digits were Cam Seigfreid (15), Torian Jenkins (14) and Cody Spaid (13). The trio of Seigfreid, Jenkins and Spaid went a combined 18 of 24 from the field.

Tommy Arbuckle drained the record breaking three pointer with 3:32 remaining in the game. The basket broke a record that stood for just over seven years. The previous record was an 18 three-point night by the Bobcats in a game against Wright State – Lake on December 29, 2012.

The Bobcats came out of the gates firing and got out to an early 13-4 lead just three minutes into the contest. Pitt-Greensburg got the lead up to twenty points for the first time in the game (39-19) at 8:40 when France sunk his fourth three pointer of the contest. The largest lead of the first frame came at the 6:45 mark on a Johnson three pointer that made the score 44-21 in favor of the Bobcats. UPG owned a 19-point (59-40) edge at the intermission.

Pitt-Greensburg started the game making nine of their first 11 three-point attempts. France led that charge, draining his first four from beyond the arc and went on to make two more threes in the half to record all 18 of his points in the first 20 minutes.

The advantage for Pitt-Greensburg hovered right around twenty points for the entirety of the second half. The Bobcats largest lead of the half and the game came on a
David Runco three pointer at 2:03 to make it 26 points (99-73). The three ball by Runco capped off an 11-0 run by the Blue and Gold, after the Wildcats got as close as they ever would in the half (15 points) at 4:22.

Nick Kotecki made a free throw with 63 seconds to play to put the Bobcats at 100 points for the first time in four seasons.The Bobcats ended the night shooting 50% (20-40) from deep and 55.6% (40-72) from the field. 

The Bobcats assisted on 29 of their 40 made baskets, while Seigfreid led the team with 7 assists and Jenkins was close behind with 6 dimes.

UPG caused 22 Wildcat turnovers, which they converted into 36 points, compared to Penn College, who managed just six points. 

Ben Sosa led all scorers in the game with 21 points for the Wildcats.

Pitt-Greensburg dives back into conference play with a Saturday (Jan. 11) road trip to Medaille College. The Bobcats and Mavericks tip is set for 1 pm.
