AUBURNDALE, Fla- Behind a strong offensive performance and a great start from Will Thorp, the Pitt-Greensburg baseball team defeated Curry by a score of 10-3 Saturday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park.
Pitt-Greensburg broke out the bats on offensive tallying 17 hits and were led by Brody Bonadio, Abram King, and Jordan Cavanaugh who each collected three hits on the day. Austyn Carson, Ben Green, and Mikey Sullivan also had solid days at the plate belting two base hits each.
In his first career start, Thorp totaled 104 pitches over seven strong innings, giving up just two runs on five hits to earn the win. Curry scored both runs in the top of the first, but following the inning, Thorp tossed six scoreless frames allowing just two hits.
After trailing 2-0 after the top of the first, Pitt-Greensburg came right back and plated three runs on two hits to take the lead. Bonadio and Carson each had singles and Green would walk as the Bobcats loaded the bases with no outs. Jacob Davey drove in Bonadio with an RBI ground out and on the next at-bat, Carson and Green would both score on a throwing error by Curry.
Pitt-Greensburg added another run in the second on a RBI base hit from Carson as the Bobcats led 5-2 at the end of six innings.
Holding a 5-2 advantage and the game still in the balance, Pitt-Greensburg would load the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. On his third pitch of the at-bat, Dylan DeRoss cleared the bases with a triple to the right center gap to break the game open.
Curry added its third run of the game in the eighth, but Pitt-Greensburg would go on for the 10-3 victory.
Pitt-Greensburg returns to action tomorrow afternoon, taking on Beloit in a doubleheader slated for a 4 pm start.
