Women's Soccer Caps Off Non-Conference Slate With 3-1 Win Over Allegheny

GREENSBURG - The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's soccer team scored twice late in the second half to down Allegheny College, 3-1, this afternoon, in their final non-conference match of the regular season.

The Bobcats improve to 10-2 on the season with the win.

Ashley Lucas started the game out with a bang, scoring just 41 seconds into the contest. Becca Kubler centered the ball to the middle of the box and Tiffany Michalek got a shot off but it was blocked by a Gator defender. Lucas gained possession of the blocked ball and struck the back of the net from 10 yards out with a rocket off her right foot to give Pitt-Greensburg the early lead.

Allegheny answered right back with a goal thirty seconds later. Lilly Noel lofted a shot just over the outstretched arms of Yoder to knot the game at 1.

After the action packed first minutes of the game the defense settled in for both teams. Each team was only able to get one more shot on goal in the first half, as the 1-1 tie remained at the break.

The defenses stayed true for the second half until the Bobcats broke through in the 82nd minute.

Alexia Sheppard gained control of a loose ball after a corner kick in the 82nd minute and left footed it to the top left of the net to break the long-standing tie and put Pitt-Greensburg ahead, 2-1. It was the first goal of Sheppard's career, a freshman from Leesburg, Ohio.

Minutes later, Sarah Tonkovich dribbled up the far side and gave a pass to Lucas in the middle of the field, who redirected the ball right into Michalek's stride as she beat the far defender and kicked in an insurance goal for the Bobcats in the 88th minute. The goal was Michalek's 15th of the season.

Yoder bounced back from the early goal and did not let another one past her, as she made four saves over the 90 minute contest, improving her season record to 9-2.

Pitt-Greensburg did not allow a single corner kick in the game, while they obtained eight.

The Bobcats will return to conference play next week with two AMCC matchups. The week begins on Tuesday in Cresson, PA at 6 pm, when they take on Mount Aloysius College.
