Baseball Has Rally Stopped By Wilson Sunday Afternoon

GREENSBURG- Trailing 8-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Pitt-Greensburg with a seven-run burst in the home half of the sixth to take the lead, but Wilson plated two in the top of the seventh to complete the sweep of the doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Park.
Wilson rolled to a 19-10 win in game one and completed the comeback in game two, winning 10-9 to complete the sweep of the doubleheader.

Notables
  • Ben Green led the way with five hits on the day and five runs
  • Jacob Davey, Brody Bonadio, and Jace Cappellini each tallied four hits on the day
  • Cappellini led UPG with four RBI, followed by three each from Davey, Green, and Randy Hubbard.
  • Paul Tumicki went 2-4 with an run and an RBI in his first career start.
  • Pitt-Greensburg as a team batted .369 on the day, tallying 24 hits, 19 runs, three doubles, one triple, and 19 RBI.
Game Two
Pitt-Greensburg trailed 8-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. Wilson made a pitching change to begin the frame and Davey would see four-straight balls to reach first. Hubbard was then hit by a pitch, Sullivan walked, and Pitt-Greensburg loaded the bases with no outs. Following the first out of the frame, Tumicki rocketed a 2-2 pitch through the right side scoring Davey.

Wilson once again made a pitching change and following the substitution, Goodwin drove in Hubbard with a sac fly. Bonadio scored Sullivan on a base hit, then Green and Cappellini each knocked in a run. Davey would come up for the second time in the frame and smashed a 1-1 toss through the right side to give UPG their first lead of the game.

Wilson would be down to its final out of the game, but on an 0-2 pitch, Erica Holtz rocketed a single to left center, which scored two runners to give the Phoenix the lead once again.

UPG jumped to out a 2-0 lead in its first at-bats of the game as Hubbard and Sullivan each drove in a run.

Wilson came right back with four runs in the top of the second and added two additional scores in the fourth and fifth.

Game One
Wilson got off to a quick start, scoring three in the first, four in the second, and six in the third.

UPG got on the board with three runs in the third as Green tripled home Bonadio and both Cappellini and Carson would each drive in a base-runner.

The Bobcats rallied for four runs in the fourth, but Wilson would put any doubt away with six runs in the fifth.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Monday, March 22, when it travels to face Hiram in a non-conference doubleheader slated for a 1 pm start.
