Baseball Drops Two Against Mt. Aloysius Tuesday Afternoon

GREENSBURG- The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to visiting Mt. Aloysius, Tuesday afternoon in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Bobcat Park.
Mt. Aloysius picked up a 9-7 win in the opening game of the day and completed the sweet with a 17-9 victory in the nightcap.

Notables

Game 1- Pitt-Greensburg 7, Mt. Aloysius 9
Pitt-Greensburg outhit Mt. Aloysius 15-8 in the opening game of the day, but would fall short on the scoreboard.

Mt. Aloysius jumped out to a three-run lead as the visitors tallied three runs in the first, but the Bobcats would come right back and answer with four in the home half of the inning. Hubbard knocked in Bonadio for the first run and Renzi cleared the bases with a three-run bomb as the Bobcats led 4-3 after one inning.

Mount added two runs in the third and one in the fourth as the Mounties led 6-4 after four innings. The Mounties were at it again in the sixth as they tallied three runs on two hits to extend their advantage to 9-4.

Green tripled home two runs in the sixth and Jace Cappellini knocked in Green to cut the deficit to two, but Dylan Coyle was brought on to close the game for the Mounties, and Coyle shut the door to record his sixth save of the season.

Game 2- Pitt-Greensburg 9, Mt. Aloysius 17
Following a scoreless first inning, the Bobcats loaded the bases with no outs and Hubbard lined into a double play, but Bonadio scored on the play to put UPG up 1-0.

Neither team would score in the second, but Mt. Aloysius scored five in the third and would lead for the remainder of the game.

Davey doubled home Green in the third as Green led off the inning reaching bases on an error, but the Mounties added three more runs in the fourth as they tallied two hits and took advantage of two errors.

In the sixth, Bonadio doubled home Thorp and Cappellini singled in Bonadio. In the following inning, Cavanaugh, Thorp and Dylan DeRoss each drove in a run, but the Mounties would take the game 17-9.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the field April 21 when it takes the trek to face Penn State Altoona for a doubleheader started at 1 pm.
