Baseball Scores 8-2 Win In Game One Against Penn State Altoona

ALTOONA- Jace Cappellini and Devin Renzi each drove in two RBI and Mikey Sullivan tossed a complete-game to propel the Pitt-Greensburg baseball team to an 8-2 win over Penn State Altoona In game one of an AMCC Doubleheader Sunday afternoon.

Following the 8-2 win by Pitt-Greensburg in game one, Penn State Altoona would prevail 8-7 in 10 innings to end the day.

Notables
  • Pitt-Greensburg batted .351 on the afternoon, totaling 15 runs on 27 hits.
  • Chandler Goodwin and Austyn Carson each launched their first home run of the season
  • Carson drove in a team-best four runs on the afternoon

Game 1- Pitt-Greensburg 8, Penn State Altoona 2

Neither team got much going in the opening two innings of play, but the Bobcats got their offense going in the third inning. The first three batters of the frame would reach base and Green would score two runs on a double to left field. Cappellini followed Green's double with a base hit through the left side that also brought in two runs.

Altoona got a run back in the bottom of the inning, but Renzi singled home two runs in the fifth to extend the UPG lead to 6-1.
Pitt-Greensburg added two additional runs in the seventh and UPG would go on for an 8-2 win.

Game 2- Pitt-Greensburg 7, Penn State Altoona 8- 10 Innings

Trailing 7-6 entering its final at-bats of the afternoon, Goodwin stepped to the plate and would tie the game with just one swing with his first home run of the year.

Sullivan led off the 10th with a single and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Jordan Cavanaugh, but the Bobcats were unable to bring in the run.

In the bottom of the inning, McClain hit a one-out single and moved over to second when Hunter Breon was hit by the pitch. Ennis scored on a sacrifice fly and Penn State Altoona would score an 8-7 walk-off win.

Pitt-Greensburg never led in game two, but Carson hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning for the first long ball of his career.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to the field Friday afternoon, playing host to Medaille for an AMCC doubleheader, slated for 1 pm.
