Davey’s Two Home Runs Propel Baseball To Split With Alfred State

GREENSBURG- Jacob Davey hit his first two collegiate home runs and drove in a career-best five RBI as the Pitt-Greensburg baseball team won game two of a doubleheader against Alfred State, Friday afternoon at Bobcat Park.

Alfred State won the opening game of the afternoon by a score of 16-10 and Pitt-Greensburg would win the nightcap, 11-6.

Game 2- Pitt-Greensburg 11, Alfred State 6

In game two, Davey went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, with two home runs, five RBI, and scored four runs.
Alfred State jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in their first at-bats, but Pitt-Greensburg answered with three runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead. Austyn Carson singled home Davey for the first run and Bonadio came through with a base hit to right field, which scored Carson and Cavanaugh.

Thorp drilled a two-out double in the fourth and would come around to score on a base hit from Bonadio to put the Bobcats ahead 4-1.

UPG added a fifth run of the game in the fifth as Cavanaugh drove home Davey.

Alfred State trimmed the deficit to 5-4 with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and added two additional runs in the seventh to jump ahead 6-5.

In the bottom of the inning, Davey drilled a two-run home run and Devin Renzi singled home Cavanaugh as the Bobcats led 8-6 after seven innings.

Davey drove in three insurance runs in the eighth as he launched his second home run of the game to send UPG to the 11-6 win.

Alfred State scored three runs in the top of the first to jump out to a quick 3-0 lead, but Pitt-Greensburg answered with four runs in the second. Thorp and Bonadio drove in runs with base hits and DeRoss plated two with an opposite field home run.

The Pioneers responded with two scores in the third and added a run in the fourth to take a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the fourth.

UPG added four runs in the fourth, but the Pioneers put up six runs in the sixth and would go on for a 16-10 win.

Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Sunday afternoon, when it plays host to Medaille for Senior Day. Sunday's doubleheader is slated for 1 pm.
