Bobcats Bounce Back With 7-1 Rout Of Franciscan

GREENSBURG – The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's soccer team rebounded from their first loss of the season on Saturday with a decisive, 7-1, victory over Franciscan at Ridilla Field this afternoon.

The Bobcats improve their record to 8-1 on the season, while the Barons drop to an even 3-3.

Tiffany Michalek paced the Pitt-Greensburg offense with three goals on four shots. The senior's hat trick puts her at 12 goals on the season. She got the scoring started just about four minutes into the game. Ashley Lucas set Michalek up, who used her right foot to kick past the Barons goalkeeper.

A scoring barrage ensued for the Blue and Gold, as they ended the first half with a 6-1 lead.

Michalek sent a pass across the field to Elise Stratil in the seventh minute, for her first goal of her senior season, to put the Bobcats second goal on the board.

Franciscan tried to stop the bleeding after a goal in the 24th minute, but the Bobcats offense would not let up.

Michalek finished the day with a hat trick, scoring again in the 26th and 39th minutes. Emily Bonelli and Alexsia Barlamas got the respective assists.

Emily Bonelli scored twice in a matter of a minute to get her in double figure goals on the season. Her first came when she stole pass made by Franciscan's goalie, then Alexz Rosser lofted in a long pass to set up Bonelli's second goal.

The teams traded possessions in the second half and neither had much of an offensive attack. That was until the 87th minute when Alexsia Barlamas showed off her dribbling skills to maneuver around the defender and lace a shot to the back of the net from the top of the box.

The game well-played on both ends, with only seven fouls being called combined.

The Bobcats defense stood strong yet again, allowing just five shots and two on goal.

Lauren Yoder started in goal for the Bobcats and played the first half. Paige John checked in for the second half and shut out the Barons, making one save.

Pitt-Greensburg will return to AMCC play for their next match on Saturday when they travel north to take on Alfred State. Kickoff is set for 2 pm.
