Bobcats lose five-set thriller to La Roche

The Bobcats and RedHawks put on a show to start Blue & Gold Week on the campus of Pitt-Greensburg on Tuesday. The teams took part in a five-set thriller, with La Roche edging out the Bobcats 3-2.

The first set was as close as they come, setting the tone for the rest of the night, with the RedHawks edge in kills, successfully getting points on 14 of their 33 attempts. The Bobcats were successful on 9 of their 25 attempts.

The Bobcats came storming out in the second set with ten kills and five service aces leading them to a 25-17 set win. The Bobcats held the RedHawks to just six kills in the set. La Roche also had three service errors.

The third set came down to extra points as UPG was able to take a 2-1 match lead with a 27-25 set win. La Roche's defense was on point with four blocks; however, the Bobcats were still able to record 14 kills.

The fourth set was all La Roche as they took the momentum back in a 25-11 victory. Pitt-Greensburg struggled on the offensive side, only being able to record one kill on 37 attempts. UPG recorded nine attack errors in the fourth set alone.

The fifth and final set came down to extra points, putting an exclamation mark on an exciting evening in the Chambers Hall Gymnasium. The Bobcats came screaming out, taking a commanding lead to start the set, only for the RedHawks to come storming back, and take the set 17-15.

Emma Halutick had a monster night for Pitt-Greensburg, recording a season-best 18 kills. Taylor Logan led the team in assists with 33. Alanna Meloy and Abigail Lescallette let the way for the Bobcats in services with a combined ten aces.

The Bobcats will take the Chambers Hall Court again on Thursday when they host Mount Aloysius at 7 pm.
