Women's Volleyball Drop a Pair in Bearcat Challenge

LATROBE, PA - Pitt-Greensburg Women's Volleyball team traveled up Route 30 to play in the Bearcat Challenge at Saint Vincent this afternoon. The Bobcats dropped a match to both Saint Vincent and Waynesburg. 
 
In the first set of the afternoon matinee match against Saint Vincent, the Bearcats jumped out to a 14-4 lead before the Bobcats could put a run together. UPG was able to bring Saint Vincent's lead to single digits, however, the team was not able to make it all the way back. The Bearcats took the set by a score of 25-12. 
 
UPG was able to keep the second set close, with Saint Vincent clinging to a 9-6 lead before it was able to go on a run and pull ahead. The Bearcats went on a 15-6 run to take control of the set and eventually win 25-15.
 
The beginning of the third set belonged to Pitt-Greensburg, holding on to a 6-4 lead, before Saint Vincent went on yet another run scoring 21 of the last 31 points. 
 
Alexis Ray and Emma Halutick led the Bobcats in kills with five each. Madison Martin contributed four kills of her own. Taylor Logan had a strong match with 13 assist and 11 digs while Abigail Copeland continued her strong defensive start to the season with 16 digs. 
 
The Bobcats took on the Yellow Jackets of Waynesburg in its second match of the day. The first set was a back-and-forth affair until Pitt-Greensburg went on a six-point run to take a 11-6 lead. However, 15 of the next 18 points scored went to the Jackets, giving Waynesburg a 21-14 lead. Pitt-Greensburg battled back to make it 23-19 before Waynesburg took the match 25-19.
 
The Bobcats gave the Yellow Jackets a seven-point head start in the second set before putting a point on the board. UPG brought the set withing three points only for Waynesburg to go on a 6-1 run to take a 16-8 lead. The Jackets ended up taking the set 25-12.
 
Waynesburg was able to complete the sweep, however, the Bobcats put up quite the fight. UPG was up 14-5 before the Jackets rallied off 18 out of 22 points to take a 21-17 lead. The Bobcats were able to bring it withing two points, but Waynesburg was able to finish the set strong, taking it by a score of 25-22.
 
Ray and Halutick once again led the Bobcats in kills with Logan leading in assists and digs.
 
The Bobcats will be back in action tomorrow at Saint Vincent with matches again Allegheny at 11 a.m. and Westminster at 1 p.m.
