CHAMBERSBURG, PA – The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's soccer team was all square with the host, Wilson College, at halftime, before striking for six goals in the second half to down the Phoenix, 6-0, on Sunday afternoon.
The Bobcats spoiled their opponents season openers in both games this weekend, and improve to 3-0 in the early season.
Tiffany Michalek scored, for the third straight game to start the year, just over two minutes into the second half.
About two minutes after Michalek's goal, Alexsia Barlamas found the back of the net and Ashley Lucas ripped a penalty kick past the Wilson goalie to quickly extend the Bobcats' lead to 3-0.
Becca Kubler added the Bobcats fourth goal at the 77-minute mark.
Emily Bonelli netted two goals in the final five minutes to seal the deal.
The first half was a defensive battle, as only two shots were attempted. Both were in the fifteenth minute by the Bobcats, and were saved on goal.
The Blue and Gold dominated all match. On defense they didn't allow a shot in the first half, and only one was attempted in the second half by Wilson, which was off target. They did not surrender a corner kick over the course of the contest. On offense, the Bobcats kept consistent pressure on the Phoenix. Pitt-Greensburg fired 11 shots, 10 of which were on goal, and attempted 12 corner kicks.
The Bobcats return to the pitch on Tuesday, when they travel across town to take on St. Vincent College at UPMC Field. Kick off is slated for 4 pm.
