Bobcats Earn Overtime Victory over Bearcats

LATROBE, PA - The Pitt-Greensburg Men's Soccer team had a little fun in the rain with the St. Vincent Bearcats at UPMC Field on this Wednesday afternoon. The Bobcats came out with a victory, beating the Bearcats 2-1.

SVC got on the board early with a penalty kick goal after a take down in the box. Cory Northrup scored the goal for the Bearcats. St. Vincent controlled the possession game for most of the first half, keeping the ball on the Bobcats' side of the field. However, things changed in the last two minutes of the half.

Vinny Treonze was able to get behind the Bearcat defense and get the ball in the back of the net in the 45thand final minute of the half, giving UPG momentum going into the second half of play.

Neither team was able to pull ahead in the second half with the Bobcats getting six shots in the half, with two being on goal. The Bearcats out shot UPG 23-13 in the game with nine getting on goal. Bobcats' goalkeeper Danny Rodgers stood on his head throughout the course of the match, saving eight out of the nine shots he faced.

Finally, in the 94th minute of the first overtime, Javin Melvin netted the game winning goal to sink the Bearcats. Melvin scored his fourth goal of the year, with the first three coming in the match against Carlow.

The Bobcats are now 3-0-1, eclipsing the team's best start in over a decade. UPG will take Ridilla Field this Saturday when they take on Wilson College at 3 pm.
