Baseball on Verge of First Win; Drop Two Close Games to Bethany

BETHANY, WV – The Bobcat baseball team made significant strides on Sunday, however, the team was not able to come out on top and dropped both games of a double header to the Bison of Bethany. UPG lost the games by a score of 5-3 and 3-2. The two games are the least amount of runs that the team has given up in games this season.
 
Notables
 
-Jacob Davey went 4-for-6 on the day and reached base five times.
-Alex Borges made his first two starts of the season and scored three runs and reached base three times.
-Brody Bonadio had a combined four hits and scored a run for the Bobcats.
-Colby Lopatic pitched six innings in game two, giving up just three earned runs.
 
Game One
 
The Bison jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in game one, scoring two runs in the first inning and three runs in the second. The Bobcats settled down after that, going the rest of the game without surrendering a run. Randy Hubbard drove in an early run for the Bobcats on a single to center field to score Borges. Devin Renzi earned the final two RBIs of the game, reaching on a fielder's choice and lining out in the 5th and 7th innings scoring Bonadio and Borges. Renzi pitched the first five innings of the game, giving up the five runs in the first two innings, but settled down in the final three frames. Reed Bursic came in for relief of Renzi and pitched a scoreless inning for UPG.
 
Game Two
 
The Bobcats put a scare into Bethany in the seventh inning of game two, putting the game-tying run on second base after Jordan Cavanaugh doubled home Alex Borges to bring Pitt-Greensburg within one run with no outs in the inning. The team then proceeded to make three-straight outs, with the final two outs coming with the tying run just 90 feet away. Even with taking the loss, Lopatic had yet another solid outing for UPG, giving up just three earned runs through six innings. 
 
Up Next

 
The Bobcats will travel to Westminster to make up a previously scheduled doubleheader. The games will be Tuesday with first pitches coming at 1:00 and 3:30.
