Offense Comes Up Short for Bobcat Baseball

GREENSBURG, PA – The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team lost its first conference matchup against Alfred State on Saturday. Both games were well pitched by both sides, as the Bobcats were only able to score three runs in the two games.
 
Notables
Hunter Gideons, Jace Cappellini and Jake Davey all had multi-hit games for the Bobcats as Davey had a three-hit game in game two.
• Davey reached base four times and scored two runs.
• Mikey Sullivan pitched seven strong innings in which he struck out four batters and gave up just two earned runs.
•Cappellini drove home two runs in game one to lead the Bobcats.
 
Game One
The Bobcats fell behind early in game one, trailing 3-0 going into their at bat in the bottom of the third. The team was able to score two runs, however, the Pioneers drove across two runs in the top of the sixth inning to secure the game. Coleby Lopatic suffered the loss in game one as he gave up five runs over six innings.
 
Game Two
The second game of the double header was a pitching dual for most of the game with both starters going seven innings and giving up two or fewer runs. The wheels came off for the Bobcats in the top of the eighth with Alfred State scoring four runs in the frame to take a commanding five-run lead. UPG was not able to get another run across the plate after the fourth inning as the offense was stymied by the Pioneer pitching.

The Bobcats will host Penn State New Kensington on Monday for a single nine-inning game. First pitch will be at 4.
