Bobcats Earn Conference Split in Offensive Battle Against La Roche

PITTSBURGH, PA – The Pitt-Greensburg baseball team earned an AMCC doubleheader split today against the La Roche Redhawks. There was no shortage of offense on the day, as the teams combined for 42 runs in the doubleheader.
 
Notables
Hunter Gideons had five hits and five RBI in game one to lead the Bobcats. Gideons had a total of six RBI on the day.
Brody Bonadio went a combined 6-for-8 with two runs scored and an RBI in the leadoff spot for UPG.
• Chris Hammond made his way around the bases a few times, scoring four runs.
 
Game One
The Redhawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Michael Sullivan Jr. and the Bobcats in the first inning only for UPG to score three runs of its own in the second. The Bobcats didn't look back, scoring runs in the last four innings, including five runs in the fourth. The Bobcats tallied 16 hits and did not commit an error to play in what may have been the team's most complete game offensively and defensively this season thus far.
 
Game Two
The Bobcat pitching struggled in game two, giving up 18 runs, including seven runs in the first inning. The Bobcats went through eight different pitchers throughout the seven-inning game with six of the eight pitchers conceding runs. Dereck Lopez was the starter and took the loss. A bright spot for the Bobcats was that the team committed just one error and still had ten hits.
 
Up Next
The Bobcats' game at Penn State Altoona scheduled to tomorrow has been rescheduled to Sunday. UPG will travel north to take on Pitt-Bradford this Saturday. First pitch of game one of the doubleheader will be at 1 pm.
