Young Bobcats Propel Men's Soccer Past Thiel

GREENSBURG – A first half goal by Caleb Yuricha followed by a corkscrew flip put the Bobcats ahead of Thiel and UPG did not look back as the team took a 2-0 victory over Thiel in the season opener.

Pitt-Greensburg blitzed the Tomcats in the first half, getting seven shots off on the offensive end. The Bobcats recorded just one shot in the second half, but they made it count as Vinny Treonze found the back of the net for an insurance goal. Yuricha and Treonze combined for six of the eight Bobcat shots, including three of the four shots on goal.

UPG's defense was on stealth mode as well, as they gave up just four total shots. Junior Danny Rodgers made three saves for the Bobcats and recorded his first shutout of the year.

Four Bobcat freshmen got their share of game experience as Yuricha, Brayten Sedor, Zander Plizga, and Jeff Stritzl all played the full 90 for Pitt-Greensburg. Seven of the starting 11 players for UPG were underclassmen. They totaled 818 of the 996 minutes played by the starting 11 players.

Pitt-Greensburg will hit the road next, as they travel to Baltimore to take on Goucher.
