Baseball Splits With Bethany

BETHANY, WV – Bobcat baseball came into their doubleheader against Bethany today having doubled its win total from last season. Some stand out freshmen have made the difference along with some wily old veterans. Earlier in the season, the Bobcats swept away the Bison in a doubleheader at Bobcat Park. Today, the two teams split in the doubleheader played in West Virginia.

Freshman Ben Aftanas took the mound in game one, boasting a 2-0 record throughout. Aftanas went 4.2 innings, giving up four earned runs and struck out eight batters. The Bobcats were able to produce more hits against the Bethany pitching staff, however, the team was not able to capitalize on the runners on base. All four of the Bison runs came in the fifth inning, extinguishing the Bobcats 3-0 lead.

Pitt-Greensburg came into the sixth inning of game two trailing 9-4. However, a six-run sixth inning and an insurance run in the seventh inning led to the Bobcats securing yet another win. Freshman Tommy Ciesielski earned his second win of the season, pitching one inning and giving up just one earned run.

Pitt-Greensburg has done no worse than splitting their opponents in doubleheaders this season, taking both games of a doubleheader three times. The Bobcats will return home on Wednesday when the Tomcats of Thiel visit Bobcat Park.
