Ninth Inning Home Run Propels Thiel over Bobcats

GREENSBURG – The offense stayed hot for the Pitt-Greensburg baseball team today, however, some timely hitting from the Tomcats of Thiel upended the Bobcats on the Pitt-Greensburg campus today. A late home run propelled the Tomcats over the Bobcats in a wild 10-9 game.

Both teams scored five runs in the first inning as the pitchers were still finding their footing. However. The Bobcats knocked out the Thiel pitcher in the first inning while Pitt-Greensburg freshman Calvin Bernard was able to right the ship and go five more innings. Tyler Litts came in and pitched two innings, striking out three batters.

Six Bobcats had multi-hit games, including senior shortstop Will Thorp who had two RBI on his three hits. Freshman Colin Solinski had three RBI on two hits and scored a run. Ben Aftanas, James Domer and Jaycob Caseras all scored two runs, while Caseras went deep for his first collegiate home run.

The Bobcats led 9-7 in the eighth inning, but a passed ball brought the Tomcats within one in the eighth and tied the game in the ninth, followed by what turned out to be a game-winning home run.

The Bobcats will return to AMCC Play this Saturday as they travel to La Roche to take on the RedHawks.
