Pitt-Greensburg men's soccer picked up its second conference win of the season with a 2-1 road victory over Pitt-Bradford on Saturday evening at the Kessel Athletic Complex. The Bobcats improved to 5-4-3 overall and 2-0-0 in AMCC play.
After a slow start, the Bobcats found their rhythm midway through the first half. Lucas Pittman broke the deadlock in the 36th minute, finishing a well-placed pass from Arlo McIntyre to give Pitt-Greensburg a 1-0 lead at the break.
"We started a little slow but settled in and found the spaces to attack, which led to the first goal," said Head Coach Marc Bucci.
In the 79th minute, Nick Stuck added a second goal off an assist from Ivan Remaley, giving the Bobcats a two-goal cushion. However, Bucci noted that the team's mindset shifted after the goal.
"The second goal was positive and negative for us," Bucci said. "The extra cushion was great, but the negative side was thinking the game was won and unfortunately taking our foot off the pedal."
Pitt-Bradford capitalized on a defensive lapse in the 87th minute, as Bailee Verdill scored to cut the deficit in half. Despite the late pressure, Pitt-Greensburg held on for the win.
"They punished us on a big mistake while we were up 2-0," Bucci added. "But we were aggressive enough to keep the lead and ultimately the win."
Goalkeeper Nick Braun made two saves in the match, anchoring a defense that withstood 12 shots and eight corner kicks from the Panthers. The Bobcats managed eight shots of their own, with four on target.
The Bobcats return to action Wednesday as they travel to Highmark Stadium to take on Carlow. Kickoff is scheduled for 11AM.
