The Pitt-Greensburg women's volleyball team opened Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) play on Tuesday night at Chambers Hall, dropping a hard-fought four-set match to Carlow (25-20, 15-25, 18-25, 22-25).
The Bobcats (2-16, 0-1 AMCC) came out strong in the first set, hitting .242 as a team and using a balanced attack to take a 25-20 win. Sophomore Shyann Dongilli led the way with 7 kills and 9 digs, while Mia Stohon added a team-high 12 kills and 2 digs.
Carlow would pull away with sets 2 and 3. Set 4 saw the Bobcats look to claw their way back into the game, leading by a score of 19-13, before Carlow went on a 6 point run to tie the set. They would then take the lead for good, taking the deciding 4th set to win the match
Setter Lilly Buckles paced the offense with 29 assists and contributed 14 digs and 2 service aces. Emily Hernandez anchored the defense with a match-high 24 digs, and Grace Bradley chipped in with 9 digs and a service ace.
Pitt-Greensburg totaled 35 kills on 138 attempts, hitting .087 for the match. The Bobcats also recorded 9 service aces and 71 digs.
Pitt-Greensburg continues conference play Saturday as they travel to Penn State Behrend for a 2PM game.Â
