The Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season with a hard-fought 70-64 road victory over Grove City on Tuesday night at College Arena.
Senior guard Matthew Marinchak led the Bobcats with a game-high 22 points, knocking down six three-pointers and going a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line. Marinchak's final two free throws with 13 seconds remaining sealed the win after Grove City had cut the lead to six.
Pitt-Greensburg jumped out to a 38-29 halftime lead, fueled by efficient shooting from beyond the arc (6-for-14) and a strong defensive effort that forced Grove City into nine first-half turnovers. The Wolverines rallied in the second half, outscoring the Bobcats 35-32, but Pitt-Greensburg held firm down the stretch.
Trent Rozich added 12 points, including clutch free throws in the final minutes, and contributed six rebounds and two steals. Jackson Byer and Michael Bigley each chipped in 10 points, with Byer going 6-for-7 from the line and Bigley adding five rebounds and four assists.
Tyler Freas provided a spark off the bench, hitting both of his three-point attempts and scoring six points in just six minutes of action.
The Bobcats won the turnover battle, forcing 19 Grove City turnovers and converting them into 19 points. Pitt-Greensburg also tallied 14 fast break points and 15 second-chance points, showcasing hustle and resilience throughout the contest.
The Bobcats return to action tomorrow night as they head to Robert Morris for an exhibition match-up against the defending Horizon League champs. Tip-off is scheduled for 7PM at the UPMC Events Center.
