Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball put together a competitive first half against Division I Robert Morris before falling 81-57 in an exhibition contest Thursday night at the UPMC Events Center. The game does not count toward the Bobcats' record.
The Bobcats trailed by just six at halftime (35-29) after a strong opening stretch that included a 12-2 run to briefly take the lead. Head Coach Chris Klimchock praised his team's approach, saying he was proud of how they competed for 40 minutes. "I asked our guys in pregame to play with energy and toughness and they came out and gave us great effort," Klimchock said. He added that the matchup was a special opportunity: "It was a really cool experience for our guys to play at a DI venue against a team who made the NCAA Tournament last year. Coach Toole is a great coach and runs an incredible program."
Tony Martin led Pitt-Greensburg with 15 points off the bench, shooting 4-for-6 from the field and 6-for-9 at the line. Ty Keffer added 13 points, including three three-pointers, while Trent Rozich scored 11 points and grabbed three rebounds. Jackson Byer chipped in seven points in 10 minutes.
Pitt-Greensburg shot 35.2% from the floor and hit six threes, while Robert Morris finished at 48.6% and scored 60 points in the paint. The Bobcats' bench contributed 26 points, and the team forced 16 turnovers, converting them into 15 points.
The Bobcats return home to take on Allegheny in a non-conference match-up Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 2PM at Chambers Hall.
