Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball kept its undefeated start alive in emphatic fashion, surging past Geneva 94-62 on Saturday afternoon at Metheny Fieldhouse. The Bobcats improved to 6-0 overall, using a relentless second-half push and balanced scoring to secure the road win.
The game opened with a back-and-forth pace as Michael Bigley knocked down the first jumper for UPG, and Matthew Marinchak answered with a three-pointer to tie things early. Geneva briefly held the lead, but momentum shifted when Trent Rozich threw down a fast-break dunk at 13:45, giving the Bobcats their first advantage at 11-10. From there, Pitt-Greensburg began to assert control.
A 9-0 run midway through the first half, fueled by Tony Martin's three-pointer and layup, swung the game in UPG's favor. Jackson Byer capped the half with a tip-in in the final minute, sending the Bobcats into the locker room up 43-34.
The second half was all Pitt-Greensburg. Ty Keffer's fast-break layup and Rozich's three-point play set the tone, and Marinchak buried a three at 15:16 to stretch the lead to 55-41. Byer then took over, scoring eight points in less than two minutes—including back-to-back layups—to push the margin to 80-54.
Rozich led all scorers with 20 points, hitting 10-of-11 from the line, while Byer added 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Bigley chipped in 12 points, and Marinchak and Keffer combined for eight assists. The Bobcats shot 61.8% from the field, dominated the paint with 54 points, and turned 18 Geneva turnovers into 28 points.Â
The Bobcats head into the AMCC opener on against Penn State Altoona Wednesday a perfect 8-0 and look to avenge a loss that knocked them out of the AMCC tournament last season. The game is at home in Chambers Hall Wedneday with a 7PM tip-off.Â
