The Pitt-Greensburg men's basketball team remained unbeaten with a commanding 93-66 victory over Penn State Altoona in its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) opener Wednesday night at Chambers Hall. The Bobcats improved to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while the Lions dropped to 4-4 and 0-1 in AMCC action.
After a back-and-forth start that saw the game tied at 18-18 midway through the first half, Pitt-Greensburg seized control behind a strong offensive surge. Trent Rozich sparked the run with an assist and a layup, while Jackson Byer drilled consecutive three-pointers to push the lead into double digits. Jahmir Collins added energy off the bench, knocking down three triples in the opening period, and the Bobcats closed the half on an 11-4 spurt to take a 45-34 advantage into the break.
The second half belonged to Pitt-Greensburg, which shot an impressive 65.5% from the field after halftime. Michael Bigley opened the frame with a three-pointer, and Rozich followed with a layup and free throw to extend the margin. A fast-break layup by Joziah Wyatt-Taylor and another three from Ty Keffer pushed the lead past 20 points. The Bobcats continued to pour it on, with Rozich assisting on multiple baskets and finishing strong inside. Late in the game, reserves contributed as Ryan Greggerson scored six points in two minutes, including a dunk, and Tylan McCune-Daniels capped the scoring with a layup in the final seconds.
Rozich led all scorers with 22 points, adding nine rebounds and nine assists in a near triple-double performance. Bigley chipped in 15 points, Byer added 11 points and seven boards, and Collins finished with 12 points off the bench. Pitt-Greensburg dominated the paint with 42 points inside, scored 21 points off turnovers, and received 34 points from its bench.
Penn State Altoona was paced by Kaden Claar, who scored 20 points and hit six three-pointers, while Nehemiah Frye added 11 points and eight rebounds.
The Bobcats return to action on Saturday, Dec. 6, when they travel to Pitt-Bradford to face the reigning AMCC champs. Tipoff is scheduled for 4PM.
