Baseball's Comeback Falls Short; Drop Home Opener

GREENSBURG, PA – On Wednesday, the Pitt-Greensburg baseball team opened its home slate under sunny skies at Bobcat Park. Pitt-Greensburg was down 5-1 with two outs in the ninth, but James Domer's first home run of the season cleared the right-center fence to bring the Bobcats within one run. The Wolverines could shut the door on the Bobcats in the next batter and take the game 5-4.

The game was quick moving, even with 22 total hits combined between the two teams. Domer led the Bobcats, going 3-for-5 with three runs batted in and scored. Junior Ben Aftanas also had two hits for the Bobcats and scored a run. Eight different Bobcats had a hit in the game.

The Pitt-Greensburg pitchers also had a quality game. The Bobcats struck out eight GCC batters between Matt Mazzara, Steven Muratore, Joshua Preston, and Tyler Litts. Mazzara led the way with four strikeouts in the starting role.

The Bobcats will return to play on Saturday, March 15, when they travel to Pittsburgh to take on Chatham in an evening doubleheader. Game one will begin at 5:00 p.m., and game two will follow under the lights.
