Baseball Swept in Doubleheader by Trine

AUBURNDALE, FL – The Bobcat Baseball team entered play Sunday looking for its first win of the season as the team played a doubleheader against the Thunder of Trine at Lake Myrtle Park. Pitt-Greensburg was not successful in finding it's first victory as they dropped game one 4-2 and game two 11-5.

Game One:

The Bobcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead against Trine in the first game of the day as Colin Solinski continued to wreak havoc on the diamond, this time reaching on an error that let Thomas Smith score. Pitt-Greensburg held the lead until the fifth inning, where an error, two singles, and a walk led to the Thunder scoring two runs and taking a 2-1 lead. Trine scored two more runs off Bobcat relief in the sixth as Trine had two extra-base hits to take a 4-1 lead. Neo Miller started the seventh with a single and then advanced to second on a passed ball. James Domer drove Miller in on a single to right field for the Bobcats' second and final run.

Junior Matt Mazzara started for Pitt-Greensburg, striking out five batters over 4.2 innings while scattering five hits and two earned runs. Sophomore Joshua Preston came in for 1.1 Innings of relief. Drew Basso earned the win for Trine, his first of the season, and Evan Shoppell earned his first save for the 2025 campaign.

Game Two:

A six-run third inning broke the game open for Trine in the second game of the doubleheader. Three walks and a hit by pitch helped the Thunder stay in the box and keep the inning alive. The Thunder followed that inning with three runs, but the Bobcats came fighting back as sophomore Zachery Tyson hit a three-run blast, the second home run of his career and the first since the spring trip of 2024. Nicholas Laubach and Brycen Rearick scored on the round trip.

Junior Ben Aftanas lost in his first appearance on the mound, while Kaleb Edwards, Zachary Knabenshue, and Colin Solinski pitched five innings in relief. Noah Brettin earned the win for Trine.

Up Next:

Pitt-Greensburg will have an off day on Monday and return to the diamond on Tuesday for a single nine-inning game against Bluffton at Lake Myrtle Park. The first pitch will be at 10:30 a.m.
