Baseball Splits With Hilbert

HAMBURG, NY – It was a tale of two games for the Pitt-Greensburg baseball team as they played their first road AMCC Doubleheader against Hilbert. Conner Burkey and the Bobcats shut down the Hawks in game one, while scoring just enough runs to earn the win, 3-1. Game two was all Hilbert as the Hawks defeated the Bobcats 13-3.

Game One:
The Bobcats jumped on the Hawks in the first game of the day, as the team was up 3-0 by the time they reached the fourth batter. A Ben Aftanas double, followed by a James Domer triple and a Tommy Smith RBI ground out, gave the Bobcats and Burkey all they would need.

Hunter Gideons provided some insurance for Pitt-Greensburg as he hit his first home run of the season to give the Bobcats a 3-0 lead. Hilbert came back and scored a run off Burkey in the fifth on a home run.

Burkey scattered four hits over a complete seven innings and struck out seven batters. The win gives Burkey his fourth win of the season in five starts.

Game Two

Hilbert went on a six-run blitz in the first inning and held the Bobcats off the board until a three-run home run by Domer in the fifth inning. The home run was Domer's fifth of the season. Domer and Zachary Tyson were the lone Bobcats to record multiple hits, accounting for five of the seven total hits.

The Hawks added three runs in the sixth and four more in the eighth to run-rule the Bobcats.
