Bobcats Earn Split In AMCC Doublheader

GREENSBURG, PA – Finals week is nearing, which means the Bobcats' Baseball team is jockeying for position in the AMCC standings heading into the final stretch. Friday's doubleheader went a long way for Pitt-Greensburg as the Bobcats hit around multi-time AMCC Pitcher of the Week in Alfred State's Ryan Bailey, giving him his most challenging start in AMCC play. The Bobcats took game one 6-5 on a walk-off single by Colin Solinski. In game two, Alfred State avenged the Bobcats, as the Pioneers won 10-5.

Game One:
Pitt-Greensburg junior Calvin Bernard pitched his best game of the season, tossing six innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits, and striking out two. The Bobcats' offense came to play against the Pioneers, tallying 11 hits, with seven of the nine starters getting hits.

Junior Colin Solinski had three hits in the game, including the game-winning single at the bottom of the seventh inning. Diego Santos had two hits, including a three-run shot in the fifth inning. Santos and teammate James Domer ranked in the top five in the conference in the home run category as the shot off the top of the left field wall bounced over to give Pitt-Greensburg's backstop his fifth of the season.

The Baseball gods were on Alfred State's side at the top of the seventh. Two infield hits, one a cue shot off first base to lead off the inning and the other a weak ground ball that didn't reach the infield dirt, led to three runs scoring to tie the game at five. The Bobcats answered with a double and two singles to win the game in the bottom half of the inning.

UPG's five earned runs off the Pioneers' Ace, Ryan Bailey, were the second-most the pitcher has given up this season and the most in conference play. Bailey pitched in two AMCC games before today, giving up just seven hits combined. The Bobcats surpassed that hit count in one game.

Game Two:
This game went to the offense, as the teams combined 27 hits and 15 runs over nine innings. Pitt-Greensburg accounted for 12 of those hits, including four doubles. Eight of Alfred State's 19 hits, including seven doubles, went for extra bases.

Solinski followed up his three-hit game one with another three-hit game and scored two of the Bobcats' five runs. Junior Ben Aftanas was also the perfect table setter, reaching base three times in the game through hits.

While most of the AMCC is learning, Alfred Sate didn't get the memo not to run on the Bobcat catcher, Diego Santos. Santos caught three would-be base stealers in game two and picked off a runner who got too far down the line on third base. Santos leads the conference, halting ten runners, with five in conference play.

Up Next:
Pitt-Greensburg will take a quick AMCC retreat next week, with three non-conference matchups before a heavyweight bout with the Penn State Behrend Lions on Saturday, April 26. The Bobcats will travel to Fredonia on Tuesday, followed by a home game against the Muskies of Muskingum on Wednesday. Saturday's AMCC Doubleheader against Behrend will start with the Bobcats celebrating their senior class.
