Baseball Falls to Franciscan

GREENSBURG, PA – The Bobcats played their annual late-season nonconference matchup with Franciscan today at Bobcat Park. Franciscan defeated the Bobcats 7-6.
 
The Barons scored two first-inning runs off Bobcat starter Matt Mazzara, but Mazzara settled in for the next five innings, giving up just one more run. Two of Mazzara's three runs given up were earned.
 
Pitt-Greensburg received a lot of production from the top of the order as both Ben Aftanas and James Domer had two hits. Aftanas also scored two runs while Domer drove in one. Thomas Smith drove in four runs in the three-hole, including a three-run shot that brought the Bobcats within a run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. The home run was Smith's sixth of the season, tying him with Domer for the team lead. His four runs batted in leave Smith with 37 on the season, placing him third in the AMCC.
 
On Friday, the Bobcats will take on Pitt-Bradford in the team's final AMCC regular-season Doubleheader. The game has been moved to The Point Stadium in Johnstown. The first pitch of game one will be at 1:30 p.m.
