GREENSBURG, PA — The Pitt-Greensburg Women's Volleyball team is gearing up for the 2025 season with a fresh outlook and a determined mindset. Projected to finish 7th in the AMCC Preseason Coaches Poll, the Bobcats are embracing the challenge and focusing on building a competitive and resilient program under new leadership.
New Leadership, New Direction
The program welcomes new Head Coach Holly Saville, who brings optimism and a clear vision for growth. "I knew there was work to be done, but I saw the foundation was already here," said Saville. "This team has true potential and a desire to win. We're developing a winning mentality, mental toughness, and a strong work ethic—one game at a time." Saville, who comes to UPG after spending 5 seasons as the Head Coach at Penn State New Kensington, knows what it takes to rebuild a program. In her final season at PSUNK, Saville led the team to an 11-11 record and their 1st PSUAC playoff appearance in 10 seasons.
A revamped strength and conditioning program is already showing results, and the coaching staff is focused on building trust and instilling a culture of accountability and excellence.
Making an Impact
Among the key returners is Grace Bradley, the team's only senior and a captain who provides leadership and experience. She is joined by fellow captains Abbey Smulik and Paige Phillips, both of whom have shown strong preseason performances and are expected to be impact players. Mia Stohon, the team's top returning offensive player, is adapting her game to meet the evolving needs of the team and will play a crucial role in the Bobcats' attack.
The incoming freshman class is already making waves. Jackie Shields, an outside hitter, has had a strong preseason and is praised for her coachability. Lily Show is emerging as a promising offensive force in the middle, while Lilly Buckles is quickly establishing herself as a rising newcomer with the potential to lead the offense and contribute as a future team leader.
Eyes on Improvement and Playoff Push
With a focus on internal growth, the team's goals are clear: improve the overall record, build a program players are excited to be part of, and ultimately earn a spot in the AMCC playoffs.
"I'm incredibly encouraged and motivated to coach and teach this group of women," said the coach. "Their work ethic, love of the game, drive to win, and pure excitement for this new chapter make this a special group to lead."
The Bobcats open the season this Friday at the Lycoming Tip-Off Classic where they will take on SUNY New Paltz and host Lycoming College and continue Saturday with a matchup with Penn State Hazleton. The Bobcats open the home slate with a non-conference matchup with Washington & Jefferson on Sept 3
