The Pitt-Greensburg men's soccer team earned a gritty 2-1 road victory over Muskingum on Tuesday evening, improving to 2-2-2 on the season.
The Bobcats got on the board early in the 13th minute when forward Nick Stuck converted a chance set up by Ethan Rose, giving Pitt-Greensburg a 1-0 lead. The goal marked Stuck's first of the season and helped the team settle into its rhythm.
"We converted an early chance which helped us settle in and play our game," said Head Coach Marc Bucci. "We haven't been as clinical as we should in the past so it's nice to put one away and play with a lead."
In the second half, Landon Barcus extended the lead with an unassisted goal in the 56th minute, his first of the year. Muskingum pulled one back in the 89th minute, but the Bobcats held firm to secure the win.
Defensively, Pitt-Greensburg showed noticeable improvement, limiting Muskingum to just three shots on goal despite 13 total attempts and five corner kicks.
"We made some changes in practice to reward and punish defensive actions in hopes of being able to defend with more numbers behind the ball, which we saw tonight," Bucci added. "Hopefully, this defensive success tonight can lead to even more energy on the defensive side in the future."
Goalkeeper Brett Barnes played all 90 minutes, making two saves.
Pitt-Greensburg returns to action Saturday as they travel to Penn State Berks, with kickoff scheduled for 3pm
