The Pitt-Greensburg men's soccer team used a balanced scoring attack and a strong second-half performance to earn a 4–1 road victory over Penn State Berks on Saturday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions struck first in the 6th minute, but the Bobcats responded quickly. Just over two minutes later, Mitch Murray leveled the match with his first career goal.
"The goal against us, although a negative at the time, was a positive wake-up call to increase the energy," said Head Coach Marc Bucci. "Luckily enough, we tied it shortly after and were able to tire Berks out with our possession. This consistent pressure made it difficult for them to find a rhythm in attack."
The Bobcats grabbed the lead for good in the 26th minute when Lucas Pittman converted a penalty kick for his first Bobcat goal. Pittman then provided the assist on Matt Armenio's 33rd-minute strike to give UPG a 3–1 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, Pitt-Greensburg continued to control possession and push the pace, outshooting Berks 12–2. The Bobcats sealed the victory in the final minute when Jordan Delon scored his first career goal to cap the 4–1 result.
"We were able to create more chances and find more spaces than games in the past," Bucci said. "Being able to finish our opportunities was a continuation from Muskingum, which is exciting as we near conference play. I'd also like to highlight first career goals with our program from Lucas, Jordan, and Mitch."
Goalkeeper Nick Braun earned the win, making one save as the Bobcats limited Berks to just two shots on frame. Pitt-Greensburg finished with a 20–7 advantage in total shots and a 9–2 edge in shots on goal.
The Bobcats return to action Wednesday as they travel to take on W&J at 7pm
