Bobcats Complete Reverse Sweep to Defeat Mount Aloysius

Pitt-Greensburg completed a reverse sweep of Mount Aloysius Wednesday evening, erasing a two-set deficit to earn a thrilling 3-2 AMCC victory inside Chambers Hall.

After dropping the opening two sets, 25-21 and 25-23, the Bobcats responded by winning the next three, 25-22, 25-21 and 15-10, to complete the reverse sweep. The victory moved Pitt-Greensburg to 4-8 overall and 2-1 in AMCC play, while Mount Aloysius fell to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference. 

Pitt-Greensburg's offense was led by Lauren Fajbik, who finished with a team-high 12 kills. Abigail Smulik and Damia Sibblies each added 11 kills, giving the Bobcats three players in double figures. Smulik turned in an impressive all-around performance, hitting .435 while adding 37 assists, four service aces, 10 digs and three total blocks. Paige Phillips contributed five kills on a .250 hitting percentage and four block assists. 

The Bobcats also made their presence felt from the service line, finishing with 11 aces compared with eight for the Mounties. Smulik led the way with four, while McKenna Pore and Mia Stohon recorded two apiece. Pitt-Greensburg finished the match with 51 kills, 49 assists and 79 digs. 

Defensively, Ainsley Martin paced Pitt-Greensburg with 19 digs, while Emily Hernandez collected 12 and Hannah Binns added 11. Smulik's 10 digs gave her a double-double to go along with her 37 assists.

Facing a 2-0 deficit, Pitt-Greensburg began its comeback in the third set. The Bobcats hit .158 in the frame and stayed alive with a 25-22 victory. They carried that momentum into the fourth, producing their best offensive set of the night by hitting .241 with just four attacking errors. A 25-21 win evened the match at two sets apiece and sent the teams to a decisive fifth set. 

With the reverse sweep within reach, the Bobcats finished the job with a 15-10 victory in the fifth. Pitt-Greensburg put down eight kills in the deciding frame to complete the comeback and turn an 0-2 deficit into a 3-2 conference victory. 

The match featured 23 ties and 16 lead changes across five sets, but it was Pitt-Greensburg that came away with the victory after taking the final three frames in front of the home crowd at Chambers Hall. 

The Bobcats will look to carry the momentum from the reverse sweep into another AMCC matchup Saturday when they travel to Pitt-Bradford.
