The University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg women's volleyball team fell to Pitt-Bradford in straight sets Saturday afternoon at the McDowell Sport & Fitness Center. The Panthers took the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference matchup by scores of 25-9, 25-17 and 25-21. The loss moved the Bobcats to 4-9 overall and 2-2 in AMCC play.
Pitt-Bradford jumped out quickly in the opening set, hitting .632 with 13 kills and just one attack error to take a 25-9 victory. The Bobcats settled in as the match progressed, increasing their kill total from four in the first set to nine in the second and 10 in the third. Greensburg battled Bradford more closely over the final two frames but dropped the second set 25-17 before falling 25-21 in the third.
Lauren Fajbik paced the Bobcat attack with six kills on 18 swings while hitting a team-best .222 among Greensburg players with at least 10 attempts. Gianna Monzo added four kills on nine attempts for a .333 hitting percentage, while Abigail Smulik finished with three kills and a team-high 12 assists. Ainsley Martin contributed seven assists.
Defensively, Smulik led Pitt-Greensburg with nine digs, followed by Martin with seven and McKenna Pore with six. The Bobcats also recorded four service aces, with Smulik, Martin, Pore and Mia Stohon each registering one.
Bradford finished the afternoon with a .305 team hitting percentage and 40 kills compared with 23 for Greensburg. The Panthers also held a 12-4 advantage in service aces and recorded four solo blocks and six block assists. Kailyn Ehlen led Bradford with 13 kills, while Aubrey Butler added 11.
The Bobcats showed their strongest resistance in the final set, when the teams played through two ties and two lead changes. Greensburg recorded a match-high 10 kills in the frame before Bradford closed out the three-set victory.
