Game 1 – Calvin 11, Pitt-Greensburg 3

Calvin jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating Pitt-Greensburg 11-3 in the first game of Friday's doubleheader.

The Knights struck quickly in the top of the first inning. After a single by Parker Seth and a double from Landon Evans put runners in scoring position, Gabe Jeffries delivered a two-run single to center field to open the scoring. Isaac Hubka followed with an RBI double, and another run crossed on a catcher's error to give Calvin a 4-0 advantage after the opening frame.

Calvin added to its lead in the second inning. A single by Thomas Paplawsky and a base hit from Landon Mikula set the table before Seth reached on an error that allowed another run to score. Evans and Jeffries each followed with RBI singles to extend the lead to 7-0.

The Knights continued to build their lead in the fourth inning when Evans raced around the bases for an inside-the-park two-run home run, pushing the margin to 9-0.

Calvin added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to stretch the lead to 11 before Pitt-Greensburg mounted a late rally.

The Bobcats broke through in the bottom of the seventh. Jonah Marks led off the inning with a single and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. After Kaden Faychak drew a walk, pinch hitter Ethan Steinmetz delivered the biggest swing of the game for Pitt-Greensburg, launching a three-run home run to left field to bring the Bobcats within eight runs.

Marks finished the opener with two hits, while Faychak also recorded a hit and scored a run. Steinmetz drove in all three Pitt-Greensburg runs with his seventh-inning homer.

After both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings, the Bobcats struck in the third. Tommy Smith jump-started the rally with a triple down the right field line before Colin Solinski brought him home with an RBI single to right. Moments later, a wild pitch allowed Solinski to score, giving Pitt-Greensburg a 2-0 advantage.

Calvin answered in the bottom of the third when a double play ball allowed a run to score, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

The Knights took the lead an inning later. With runners aboard, Josh Winkle delivered an RBI double that brought in a pair of runs to give Calvin a 3-2 advantage.
