Baseball Falls to Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, OH – It was a battle of two top five offenses in Division III on Thursday as the Bobcats took on the Muskies of Muskingum University. Pitt-Greensburg came in ranking third in the nation with a .368 team batting average while the Muskies came in ranking fifth with a .358 team batting average.

The Bobcats came out firing as the team pushed across three runs in the top of the first inning with two of the runs scoring on wild pitches. The Muskies then answered with seven unanswered, putting up crooked numbers in the second and fourth innings. That proved to be enough for Muskingum as Pitt-Greensburg was only able to push across one more run in the seventh inning.

Both teams continued their offensive swing as they combined for 19 hits throughout the game. Ben Aftanas, Jace Cappellini and Colin Solinski each had multiple hits for Pitt-Greensburg while only two Muskies had a multi-hit game.

Sophomore Coleby Lopatic started the game for the Bobcats, as he went two innings, giving up just two earned runs. Freshmen Tyler Litts and Calvin Bernard combined for the final seven innings. Bernard went 4.1 innings and struck out four batters while not giving up a run.

Pitt-Greensburg will have a travel day on Saturday, followed by an AMCC doubleheader on Sunday against Hilbert. First pitch of game one will be at 1 PM.
