Solid Pitching and a Walk Off Lead Bobcats to Sweep of Penn College

GREENSBURG – It was a busy day on the Pitt-Greensburg campus as both the Bobcat baseball and softball teams were in action. The Bobcat baseball team continued its stellar season, as they swept away Penn College behind solid pitching and timely hitting, especially by fifth-year senior Michael Sullivan Jr. who hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning of game two to give the Bobcats a sweep.

Game one saw freshman Ben Aftanas take the mound for the Bobcats, as he pitched a gem, giving up just four runs over six hits in five innings pitched. Aftanas also saw his offense put up 11 runs, as fellow freshman James Domer had four hits himself, scoring three runs and driving in two. Freshmen Frankie Sebastiano and Manoel Essley also had multiple hits as well as senior Will Thorp who was batting in the leadoff spot for the first time this season.

Game two saw the Bobcats battle back from a 6-2 deficit, scoring four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, and capping it off with a walkoff in the seventh. Tyler Litts pitched a solid game, while giving Pitt-Greensburg some length, going five innings. Matt Mazzara earned the first win in his college career as he came in and shut the door for the final two innings, giving up just one hit.

The Bobcats will travel to Juniata on Thursday and then turn their attention to the only team they are looking up at in the AMCC Standings, the Alfred State Pioneers. The Bobcats will host the AMCC Doubleheader of the week this Saturday at Bobcat Park.
