Baseball Suffers Tough Loss to Juniata

HUNTINGDON, PA – The first 5.2 innings of the Bobcats game against the Eagles of Juniata went just the way they wanted as Pitt-Greensburg scored five runs in the first inning, followed by another in the second and freshman pitcher Matt Mazzara was dealing. Mazzara had the best outing of his young Bobcat career, going 5.2 innings, giving up three earned runs spread out over five hits.

The Bobcats had a 6-3 lead when Mazzara exited the game. Things were looking good as Pitt-Greensburg, which showcases one of the top offenses in Division III, paired with the Juniata pitching staff that has an ERA right around ten.

However, the Eagles offense came alive once they chased Mazzara from the game, scoring 11 runs on the Bobcat bullpen, including eight in the seventh inning. Pitt-Greensburg was able to add four of its own in the final three innings, but it wasn't enough as the Eagles came out on top 13-10.

Senior Jace Cappellini had a career day at the plate, going 4-for-6 with four RBI and a run scored. Freshman Neo Miller had his best day as a Bobcat in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Freshman center fielder James Domer was the beneficiary of the hot hitting in the lineup behind him, as he scored four of the Bobcats ten runs. Miller and Domer had two doubles in the game. The Bobcats had six extra base hits total.

Domer also showcased his speed on the bases as he had a stolen base. Junior Mason Boehm also had wheels, stealing two vases for the Bobcats.

The Eagles didn't do much in the way of extra base hits with only three, but they were able to go station-to-station on Pitt-Greensburg with 15 hits.

The Bobcats will now turn their attention to what will be a huge Saturday doubleheader against the Alfred State Pioneers. Pitt-Greensburg currently sits in second place in the AMCC with Alfred State sitting on top.
