Bobcat Baseball Swept By Alfred State

GREENSBURG – The next three AMCC doubleheaders could be what makes or breaks the Bobcat Baseball team's season. The first test was a highly anticipated matchup between two teams that stand at the top of the AMCC standing in the Bobcats and the Pioneers of Alfred State.

The two games could not have been more polar opposites as game one of the doubleheader started and finished as a pitchers dual with each team able to earn five hits in the seven inning game. Pitt-Greensburg star freshmen Nate Mankoski had one blemish today as he gave up a run in the fourth inning, eventually giving him the first loss of his collegiate career. Mankoski went 4.1 innings, giving up just three hits and struck out four batters.

Sophomore Coleby Lopatic came in for Mankoski and did a great job of meandering the Alfred State lineup as he gave up just three hits over 2.2 innings. The Pioneers scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning on Lopatic, however, none of them were earned.

Game two started was shaping up to be another pitchers dual with the score being tied at one after the first inning, However a four-run third inning gave the Pioneers the momentum they needed as they scored ten runs over the final four innings to defeat the Bobcats.

Alfred State pitcher Chris Mattoon went the full seven innings, giving up just one earned run over five hits.

The Pioneers offense was clicking on all cylinders as they had three doubles and four home runs in game two, with first baseman Nick Serce hitting two off the Bobcat pitching.

Pitt-Greensburg will play the second half of a home-and-home with Geneva on Monday followed by two AMCC doubleheaders. Wednesday the defending AMCC Champion Mount Aloysius Mounties will visit campus. Saturday the Bobcats will travel to
Erie, PA to take on the PS Behrend Lions.
