Baseball Earns Much-Needed AMCC Split

ERIE – Bobcat Baseball came into its AMCC doubleheader against Behrend in need of a win as the team dropped its last four conference matchups. Pitt-Greensburg was able to leave Erie with win as the Bobcats split with the Lions.

Game one saw five runs scored in the first inning as the Lions took a 3-2 lead before the fans were settled in. The Bobcats tied the game at three in the third, but a six-run fifth inning by Behrend doomed the Bobcats.

Game two saw Pitt-Greensburg explode for 11 runs, including a seven-run fifth inning. The Bobcats were able to stack 12 hits together, with two of them coming from freshman leadoff hitter Ben Aftanas. Aftanas accounted for four of the 11 runs himself, with three RBI and one run scored.

Freshman Matt Mazzara earned the win as he threw six innings, giving up just one earned run and seven hits. He struck out five batters with senior Randy Hubbard coming in for the final three innings and didn't give up a run while striking out three.

The Bobcats will take time off the field to focus on Finals, returning to the diamond next Sunday when they take on the Bearcats of Saint Vincent.
